Our “No Phone” policy helps you reconnect to yourself while
finding new connections to the world around you.
Nowadays, it feels almost impossible to disconnect from technology and the bombardment of information and notifications that come on these handheld devices that never leave our hands. Heading out into backcountry, wilderness, the woods, and nature allows you to tap into your senses, be present, and well…breathe.
We have a “no phones” policy on our adventures. There will be moments for pictures. Or telling friends about your experience. Or checking in on loved ones. There are plans in place for emergency communication needs. But most importantly, this experience is yours. Guiding you into a space of feeling completely and fully present in your own body and in your own environment is key to transformational adventuring. The world waits while you take care of yourself in a way that you may have forgotten is even possible. Prioritize yourself for the few hours that you allotted and try not to cheat yourself out of the full experience of truly learning, reflecting, and growing while re-connecting with the Earth, nature, and vibrancy of life all around you.
In many of the places we adventure, cell phone service is no longer available shortly after we leave town. The phone immediately becomes very limited in usage. How does this concept make you feel? How often are you absolutely not able to utilize your phone? Addiction to our telephones is a real crisis. How often do you check your phone? What happens if you can’t find it? How long does it take you to feel free of worry when you just…let it be? Have you done that lately? Research shows that over the last seventy years, we have continued to distance ourselves more and more from nature. Despite research that supports our need for nature, we are the most disconnected from the natural elements of this world than ever before.
Disconnecting from the buzz and wavelengths of technology allows your body to naturally reset to the energy of your natural environment – the earth, trees, birds, rivers…and helps you re-connect to the energies that are restorative.
“Prize the natural spaces and shorelines most of all, because once they’re gone, with rare exceptions they’re gone forever. In our bones we need the natural curves of hills, the scent of chapparal, the whisper of pines, the possibility of wildness. We require these patches of nature for our mental health and our spiritual resilience.”
― Richard Louv, Last Child in the Woods: Saving Our Children from Nature-Deficit Disorder
Roam Your Soul facilitates transformational lifelong learning, personal growth, and centering in your strengths through adventure-based experiences. In order to be most effective in guiding you into these transformative spaces, we must first help you disconnect from that which pulls you away from yourself and from the natural world around you. We challenge you to be present – most present – and build your perspectives in real-time experiences. Leaving your phone and technology allows you to connect to yourself, others, and helps you re-connect to the powerful energy of the natural spaces we have so often disconnected from.
